A-Level & GCSE Science Tuition
A-Level
To enrol in A-Level Biology, Chemistry or Physics, it is generally required that a student has a grade 6 or above in GCSE Science. The alternative to a traditional A-Level in Biology, Chemistry and Physics is BTEC in Applied Science, though it is deemed an equivalent to A-Level, it is often less regarded by universities.
Essential
A high grade in both GCSE Science and A-Level Biology and Chemistry is a non-negotiable for entry into the medical profession. Physics in particular is often required for aspiring engineers whilst Biology is useful for those looking to pursue a sport science degree or any other science-based degree in higher education.
GCSE
Although a GCSE Combined Science is commonly seen as one GCSE, it combines three separate modules: Biology, Chemistry and Physics in the case of students doing triple science. In other cases, students might do core science (single) or additional science (double).
Further Education
Science is a compulsory subject in the curriculum. There are two tiers of entry for GCSE science: Foundation and higher – this is in line with GCSE Mathematics and other modern and foreign languages.
What We Teach
Whilst we appreciate that some students may find one module more accessible than others, we make sure that they perform strongly across the board by harnessing their confidence and strengthening their understanding of high frequency topics.
These are topics that feature heavily in exams and often pose a challenge to students
Key Benefits
At Triple Tree, we offer a 90 minutes class for our GCSE students. This enables us to cover the three modules effectively.
Biology
Biology is the science of living organisms (including animals, plants, fungi and micro-organisms) and their interactions with each other and the environment. As part of our tuition programme, we cover:
- Cell biology
- Transport systems
- Health, disease and the development of medicines
- Coordination and control
- Photosynthesis
- Ecosystems
- Inheritance, variation and evolution
Chemistry
Chemistry focuses on the construction, features and behaviour of matter – that is in terms of atoms, atomic particles and how they are structured and interact with each other. We therefore cover the following:
- Atomic structure and the Periodic Table
- Structure, bonding and the properties of matter
- Chemical changes
- Energy changes in chemistry
- The rate and extent of chemical change
- Organic chemistry
- Chemical analysis
- Chemical and allied industries
- Earth and atmospheric science
Physics
Physics is the science of the elementary ideas of field, force, radiation and particle structure which are inter-linked to form unified models of the behaviour of the material universe.
We cover the following:
- Energy
- Forces
- Forces and motion
- Waves in matter
- Light and electromagnetic waves
- Electricity
- Magnetism and electromagnetism
- Particle model of matter
- Atomic structure
- Space physics
